"Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves." - John Muir

I’m an amateur artist, photographer, and naturalist, obsessed with plants and constantly looking for ways to integrate nature into my art.
I love fossils, fungi, Earth history, the Victorian Era, art gear, books, and traveling to beautiful, unique places.
I am forever drawn to those things in this world that are both wonderful and strange.

[DO NOT use my work without my permission]
The trip is over and I'm back home.
With all the weather troubles and misc tribulations, this winter was awesome.  I saw so many beautiful places, new and old, took hundreds of photos, and have an infinite number of ideas for artwork inspired by the grand and unique qualities of the desert and its flora and fauna.
Now that I'm home, the photography will most likely be less(until this winter weather ceases and plants start to spring up, that is!), but I hope to get back into the painting game soon and work my lax artistic muscles.
That's all the updates for now!
  • Watching: the woods outside my back window
  • Drinking: coffee!

Moleskine Studies: Bark
Trying to improve my ability to distinguish trees by their bark.
left page: Aspen, Pine, Cedar
right page: Birch, Oak, Maple

Drawn with Prismacolor Col-Erase Colored Pencil in Black.
Inked with Micron Pens in 01 and 03.
Moleskine Art Plus Sketchbook Large (5x8.25")
Laetiporus cincinnatus - 'Chicken of the Woods'
Not 100% sure that it's Laetiporus cincinnatus, so if I happen to be wrong please correct me.
I should be going back and getting a spore print to ID further.
It was 12-15 inches across, white underside with pores, growing right next to a very decomposed fallen tree and it's stump, probably feeding on the roots.
Tremella mesenterica - 'Witches' Butter'
"According to Eastern European legend, when Witch’s butter appears on the gate or door of one’s home that home (and the family) had been targeted by the spell of a witch. The only remedy to remove the evil spell was to pierce the jelly fungus with something sharp until it died."

Found in local woods.
Rainy Day Bug
My camera just would not let me focus on this guy.  I took about 30 shots and this was the clearest.
Any ID help is greatly appreciated.
